![]() A personal note from your Captain... ![]() I'm excited about our trip to Germany this month. I lived in Germany for 3 1/2 years when I was young. My father was in the Royal Air Force and we were stationed at RAF Laarbruch in Weeze. While we lived in Germany we traveled all around Europe. My parents had a VW Beetle and we packed up the tent and away we went exploring all over Germany and the surrounding countries. We were limited in some of the countries we could go to because my Dad worked for NATO at that time. I don't remember much of this time but I do have a few fond momories. We didn't live on the base and my Mom tells me that I spoke German better than I spoke English...it's such a shame I didn't keep that up! My Mom taught nursery school and I can remember visiting her class at snack time every day (grin). I remember camping along the Rhine and my grandparents would come over from England to join us. I can remember a friend at one of our favorite camp sites by the name of Inka. I have cousins who live in Dusseldorf and are raising their own families. Unfortunately I haven't seen any of them in almost 17 years now! Where does the time go? I'm featuring a layout below that my Mom did many years ago when she first started scrapbooking. She made an album of my life for me for Christmas one year and I thought I'd share one of the pages with you. I treasure this album as my Mom put all her love in it. This was in the days when unless you were doing Creative Memories you scrapped 8 1/2 x 11 pages!! The trends of course have changed so much over the past 10 years but the love is still reflected in each page. Yes, that is a picture of me at the age of 4 at the bottom of the layout! ![]() I had wanted my Mom to write our intro to Germany this month but she's rather shy and didn't feel that she was interesting enough...Man, she is so wrong. I wish I could introduce you to my Mom as she's an amazing woman and I'm so proud of her! Well, there is so much more to Germany than my little intro and I'm sorry for this being so wordy! I really love it when our reader's share their own stories about the countries we visit but if no one writes to me then I have to tell my own stories...and that may be rather boring!! So, without further adieu let's get this party started!! Cap'n Dawn ![]() As part of our celebrations, we will have a brand new contest over the next few months! The first person to email me at publisher@ssreflections.com with the list of pages that each piece of artwork in the front page collage comes from will get a small prize! SSR keeps it's costs low as we are committed to supporting the small business! SSR is celebrating it's 5th anniversary in just a few months. We're already planning some great activities for our big celebration! 5 years is a long time on the internet and we've consistently provided the best information on the internet with an amazing crew of designers. SSR is NOT a non-profit business but we promised to keep our ad rates down so the small business could afford to advertise on a quality magazine. The industry is changing. Manufacturers are creating more and more choices for you to buy and it's harder and harder for the small business to keep up with the demand for the latest products and that effects their advertising budget. SSR is a free magazine for you to enjoy and that isn't going to change. We will continue to offer SSR free of charge to you, our faithful readers, but we would appreciate your donations to help offset the operating expenses. We have not set an amount to donate. You can donate $1 or more that is totally up to you via paypal. Here is the donate button: Everyone's Secretary is the answer for small businesses! Now you have the option to only pay by the hour for needed office assistance. Everyone's Secretary only charges for the work you require. Whether you need two hours a week or two hours a month, you only pay for what you need! This is a confidential and personalized service. ![]() As I'm putting the finishing touches on the September issue I'm drawn to having the news on as Hurricane Gustav comes ashore. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who is affected by this disaster. I personally think it's really dumb to force reporters to stand outside during a hurricane to tell us how windy it is outside when most of New Orleans has been evacuated as the "boss" is safe and sound in his sound booth watching a reporter and camera crew risk their lives. But, what do I know? (oops? Did I just say that?). Anyway, I'm quite comfortable watching the news when the reporter is safe and sound inside and getting updates when they are able. Don't forget to share your blog space url with me and I'll add it to my own list of favorites! I have a list of the crew's blog web addresses on my own blog and a list of some of our readers! I haven't had a poll in a while but keep checking as I'll try and update my blog later today! I do have music on my blog though as it's important to me. Be sure to turn your speakers down if you aren't interested in hearing some of my favorites! You can find my blog by clicking Here! School starts tomorrow and I think we are ready at my house. It appears that I inadvertantly forgot some supplies the boys need but I don't think they will need them all this week anyway so I have a little time. It will be so nice having them back at school again. The structure of their day again will be such a good thing and having my house clean will be such a blessing! We'll have to create a new routine in the morning though. Four of us need to shower and hopefully we'll be able to do it all with hot water. Unfortunately bed head isn't a particularly good thing when you are in middle school/high school ;-) so we'll have to figure this out the hard way! I hope you have a wonderful week and enjoy the peace! Calm sailing, Cap'n Dawn publisher@ssreflections.com Publisher Reflections Publishing Group http://dawntheath.blogspot.com/ |
